Nina Barry de Zayas, artist

about.

Born in Moscow in 1980, Nina Barry de Zayas holds a BFA from Pratt Institute and an MFA from the New York Academy of Art, and also trained in Italy and Russia. She paints oil portraits, figures, and landscapes — work that finds the quiet weight in a person, a place, or a moment.

Each canvas distills its source to mood and gesture: the tilt of a chin, the curl of cigarette smoke, the light on a far shore, the quiet confidence of someone who belongs where they stand.

She lives between Denver and Brooklyn. Alongside her painting practice she runs From the Hip Photo, a commercial photography studio, and Kissa Kissa.
